Volvo SPA (e.g. XC90) – OBD Ethernet connection

For all cars basing on the SPA platform from MY 2016 (e.g. the new XC90), Volvo introduced an Ethernet interface communicating with its VIDA software. Therefore Volvo currently provides an OBD to Ethernet adapter (part# 9513062) which should be connected to the VIDA PC’s Ethernet Adapter (or USB-Adapter) by an Ethernet-Cable. As this is very unpractical in an car workshop environment and Volvo doesn’t currently have an wireless solution I analyzed the situation in order to create something wireless as it was before with the DiCE interface.

With this Ethernet connection an 100MBit connection is established from the car to the VIDA PC. The car assignes itself a link-local address out of 169.254.0.0/16.

According to this information AlphaCron Datensysteme developed an interface connecting to the OBD of the car interacting with the VIDA PC by Wi-Fi. The price of this interface is 299€. If you are interested in this solution write an eMail to volvo@alphacron.de.

Für alle auf der SPA Plattform basierenden Fahrzeuge ab MJ 2016 (z.B. der neue XC90) hat Volvo ein neues Interface eingeführt um die Kommunikation zwischen dem Fahrzeug und dem VIDA PC zu ermöglichen. Dazu vertreibt Volvo einen OBD auf Ethernet Adapter (Teile-Nr.: 9513062) der mit der Netzwerkkarte des VIDA PCs (ggf. auch USB-Ethernet-Adapter) mit einem Ethernet-Kabel verbunden werden soll. Da dies im täglichen Werkstattbetrieb sehr unpraktisch ist und Volvo bislang keine drahtlose Möglichkeit hierzu zur Verfügung stellt, habe ich die Situation analysiert um eine drahtlose Möglichkeit zu schaffen wie es sie bisher mit dem DiCE-Interface gab.

Die Ethernet-Verbindung zwischen VIDA PC und dem Fahrzeug wird mit 100MBit betrieben. Das Fahrzeug weist sich selbst eine Link-Local Adresse aus dem Bereich 169.254.0.0/16 zu.

Anhand dieser Informationen hat AlphaCron Datensysteme ein Interface entwickelt um drahtlos per WLAN, mittels einem Adapter der ähnlich dem DiCE-Interface aussieht, zu kommunizieren.
